Jacquie Purcell began her career as a Funeral Director who worked with many coroners, and soon she found herself interested in pursuing that career. In 2004, Purcell was appointed as a Deputy Coroner, and then in 2016, she was elected Coroner of Kendall County, Illinois. She is a certified death investigator and peace officer, and she told Start TV, "I take pride that I can help a family navigate through this tragedy and come out on the other side, and still be okay."

"There's this constant on-call schedule," Purcell said of her work, which isn't a 9-to-5 job, but often requires her to work all hours, including holidays.
