Touched by an Angel truly touched viewers' hearts worldwide for nine seasons. From its debut in 1994 to its 2003 finale, audiences enjoyed watching the heartfelt moments of the series.

The show followed three angels sent to earth to uplift and spread love to those who were depressed and troubled. Two of those angels were the legendary Della Reese and Roma Downey. According to a 1995 Salt Lake Tribune article, the leading ladies had an instant connection.

Some might even say it was "divine chemistry." Reese and Downey clicked on-screen and behind the scenes; their connection brought light to the production that saw initial problems during phase one.

"Roma and I must have lived together at another time," Della Reese told the publication. "We had no period of adjustment. We were comfortable from the first hello."

In the article, Roma agreed with Reese's statement, adding that she instantly loved the role. "I loved the role right off," Downey said. "What we have to remember, in this day and age, is that there are few good roles for actresses. We're usually 'the girlfriend of' or 'the wife of.' This show is led by two strong women."

For many viewers, Touched by an Angel was a breath of fresh air from the usual content they saw on television in the '90s and early 2000s. It was also refreshing to see the impact Reese and Downey brought to the show with their chemistry.

They were two women performing in a series without being labeled as "the girlfriend of" or "the wife of," as Downey stated. It showed that women could be versatile and that there should be plenty of roles where they don't have to play second to a male character.

If anything, it should be equal, and this series paved the way for many actresses to go after vital, meaningful leading roles.
