Tammera Holmes grew up in a crime-ridden suburb of Chicago but a chance opportunity to take an airplane ride with the Tuskegee Airmen Inc, Young Eagles Program opened up her eyes to a career in aviation.

She graduated college with an aviation management degree and started her own company in 2008. In 2016, she established the AeroStar Avion Institute, a non-profit organization designed to promote aviation careers for at-risk, minority youth.
