Did Jane Rizzoli's personality rub off on Angie Harmon, the actress who played her?
When you're deep into a role, it can be hard to turn off the character. It's like you become one with the fictional being and somehow they live with you in the real world. This can be both good and bad. It allows you to play the character more flawlessly but also interferes with who you are as a person.
Your work follows you home. If you ever wondered if Jane Rizzoli, played by Angie Harmon on Rizzoli & Isles, rubbed off on her, the answer is yes.
"Our little Janie is quite the force," Harmon said during an interview with The Fort Worth (Texas) Star Telegram in 2012. "It's hard to put her to bed at night. She kind of hangs around with me for the full six months that we're shooting. My temper gets a little quicker. My fuse gets a little shorter. I say things I probably shouldn't say and normally wouldn't say."
One reason audiences love the show is that the plot alternates between serious moments and comedic elements, despite the genre. "Yeah, because life moves that way," she said of the tone of the show. "When I did my research with the Boston Homicide Unit, we were often standing around horrific situations. But the detectives kept their sense of humor. It's not in a disrespectful way. I think it just allows them to cope with what they're dealing with on a daily basis."
