Tony Award-winning actress Nancy Opel says "just keep swimming"
Posted: December 7, 2018, 9:08AMNancy Opel is a Broadway actress and singer. That's all she was determined to be after she got a "nibble" of the acting bug in high school. That inspired her to go to New York, where she borrowed her roommate's suit to audition again and again, with the motto, "Just keep swimming." Her plan worked. She has appeared on Broadway in Urinetown, which earned her a Tony Award nomination for Best Leading Actress in a Musical, Evita, Teddy and Alice, Sunday in the Park with George, Anything Goes, Triumph of Love, Fiddler on the Roof, Memphis, Hello Dolly, and Wicked. Opel started portraying Cinderella's Stepmother in the Broadway revival of Into the Woods. She reprised the role in the subsequent 2023 national tour. Opel is also an acting coach.
Now Opel works as a coach, encouraging other young talents with the same wisdom that drove her own success. She told Start TV the advice she shares most often with students is this: "You're good. Keep going."
